Chief Toby Schwartz

Officer Spotlight Chief Toby Schwartz

Toby Schwartz started his law enforcement career in 1993 serving the Anniston, AL Police Department as a patrolman and SRT member until August 1996. At that time, Schwartz attended the DEA Academy in Quantico, VA and upon completion was assigned to the Texas/Mexico border where he was partnered with and trained by Vann Winn.  Schwartz served 25 years as a Special Agent, Supervisory Special Agent, and Assistant Special Agent in Charge in offices located in McAllen, TX; the Charlotte, NC Regional Enforcement Team (RET); Houston, TX HIDTA, Galveston, TX Resident Office, Gulfport, MS Resident Office, New Orleans DEA/FBI Violent Crime Group; Hattiesburg, MS Post of Duty/HIDTA Major Investigations Squad; DEA Headquarters in Springfield, VA; and the San Francisco CA Field Division. Collateral duties with DEA included serving as a Defensive Tactics & Raids Instructor, Vehicle Containment Instructor, Trauma Team Member, SRT Team Member, PTT Instructor, SRT Commander, and Critical Incident Speaker.  Schwartz is a DEA Purple Heart recipient following a deployment involved shooting in Puerto Rico.  In 2021, Schwartz retired from DEA and is currently employed by the City of Bay St. Louis where he serves as the Chief of Police.  In his spare time, Schwartz enjoys outdoor activities, riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his family.  Toby Schwartz has been married 28 years to his wife, Sylia.  They have four children, Ciara Bagwell, John Tristan, who is a police officer, Titus, who is a firefighter and Army Reservist, and Heidi Schwartz. 

Toby is a member of the First United Methodist Church of Gulfport, Blue Knights MS II, Fraternal Oder of Police, and National Association of Black Narcotics Agents.
